In 2012, Athens Video Art Festival presented a diverse and fascinating program, under the title “Visualize Athens”. From the 18th to the 20th of May, AVAF 2012 took place in the historic center of Athens aiming to transform it into the ultimate destination of contemporary creativity. More than 340 artists from 58 countries were presented and the festival expanded its boundaries with the aim to “visualize Athens” with digital means. Among the highlights was the presentation of the 3D Cinema Technology and Mapping Projections in the public space as large-scale urban interventions.

AVAF 2012 unfolded its activities in building complex of 5000 square meters, a public square in the city center as well as in various traditional shops of the Athenian downtown. In this, the Festival designed a route through the city where the visitors of the festival encountered different cultural aspects of the city couple with the spirit of new media and new technologies.

AVAF 2012 explored the on-going interaction between different cultural traditions through public workshops, music acts and performances and organized a series of special events in collaboration with various local and international partners, such as 12 international video and media art festivals.
