Real worlds and virtual galaxies in the midst of a changing society. In RBT09, Fernando Favier will rapresent the French collective and will be discussing “Euphorie / Crise / Recession“, their most radical work. You cannot say ‘architecture’ without saying ‘art’. With that assumption clear in mind, 1024 Architecture was born with one intention: to combine the real and the virtual, and make it impossible to determine where one ends and the other begins, and how far do either expand. Their name is based on their mission statement: 1024 like the screen resolution – half of it at least; height is missing – Architecture as the discipline that leads to the mastering of design and subsequent construction of an environment. Since its birth, the collective founded by Pierre Schneider and François Wunshel, move in this ‘middle earth’ hybrid that blends metal and concrete, modelling the boundaries from time to time: buildings that are dematerialised, only to reappear in digital form, temporary works, installations and shows. They’ll be here at RBT09 for a talk which begins with the realisation of ‘Recession’, final act of the trilogy (other pieces being Euphorie and Crise) which more than any other work makes us face ourselves, to then cross over into a territory which for now we can only guesstimate. A journey through what remains of our civilization. To wake up one day and find ourselves surrounded by rubble; from which, one begins to rebuild.
